A Week In Austin, Texas State Travel Guide
In this Austin Texas State Travel Guide, I will share with you what to do in and around the city of Austin including a lot of outdoor activities, and where to stay! This travel guide is geared toward a week trip and I will add to this guide as I visit Austin, Texas more.
What To Do In Texas
My first visit to Austin, Texa was at the end of June. Temperatures can reach over 100 degrees so it’s important to remember to stay hydrated while you are outdoors. I also packed a straw hat in my luggage to help keep me cool. Most of the activities that my boyfriend and I did focus on swimming and staying cool while in the warm weather.
I hope you enjoy these recommendations and leave your favorite activities for Austin in the comments below. I would also love to hear if you ended up doing any of these off of my recommendations or if you have been to any of these Austin, Texas locations before on your own.
Pedernales Fall State Park
Pedernales Fall State Park had many trails to hike on, but we opted in to spend most of our time at this river. This was a hot spot for a lot of people to relax in the warm shallow water. I would say that there were about 30 people in this area of the river. Some people had brought snorkeling gear, floaties, or blankets set up alongside the shore. Noteworthy, there was a rope to swing into the water, as well as many stacked rocks around which gave this location a fun yet relaxing vibe.
If you are not camping here, the hours are 8 am to 10 pm. There was a $6 fee to enter the park. To learn more information about this location visit their website at https://tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/pedernales-falls or check out Pedernales Fall State Park’s google maps profile.
Krause Springs
Krause Springs is a super enjoyable location for the family or hanging out with a group of friends. When you enter the facility, you will see a beautiful garden (shown below) located to your right full of a variety of flowers, cacti, and trees. The garden is also decorated with water fountains, wind chimes, swings, and a hammock to relax on. As you walk further into the park on the left side of the office, you will find a pool surrounded by picnic tables and many grills. A little further beyond the pool, you will find a natural spring water pool (shown above), that had a beautiful waterfall as well as a rope to swing into the water. The water at this location was pretty chilly, but we slowly got used to it. Many people brought floatation devices and outside food and drinks to the picnic.
This park costs about $9 per person to enter. You can learn more on the Krause Springs Website or check out the Krause Springs google map profile.

Where To Stay In Texas
Below you will find my highly recommended places to stay while you are in Austin, Texas!
Granduca Austin Hotel
The impressive Granduca Austin Hotel is located on the outskirts of the city. They were chosen for Trip Advisor 2020 Traveler’s choice, Best Hotels USA News & World Report Ranking 2022, as well as Conde Nast Traveller’s Reader’s Choice Award 2020. The Granduca Austin Hotel is located only ___ minutes from the heart of Austin (320 S Capital of Texas Hwy, West Lake Hills, TX 78746) making this location relaxing yet providing easy access to a lot of Austin’s offerings.
We stayed in a King Size bedroom with a miniature balcony that overlooks the outskirts of the city. This spacious room comes equipped with a walk-in glass shower, lockbox for any expensive personal items, coffee machine, coffee pods, work desk, tv, side tables, bedside lamps, clothing iron, drink fridge, alarm clock with USB ports, hotel embroidered robes, slippers, and a huge closet to fit all of your luggage. We loved the down-feather pillows and comfy white bed sheets!
To relax around the hotel, even more, we hung out around the pool and hot tub which is open from 9 am to 9 pm. We also checked out the fitness center on the 9th floor for a quick workout and hit up the sauna afterward to soothe our muscles.
